Following a poll by the employees of the Blade Factory on Alexandra Dock, Hedon Road, Hull and receiving a total of 112 votes, we are delighted and privileged to have been nominated as Siemens Gamesa's charity for 2023! This means that all fundraising undertaken by SGRE this year will be for the benefit of nsif!! Special thanks go to Samantha Roberts for her dedication and commitment to making this a successful year for nsif. Fast forward to the end of 2023 and an astonishing total of £15,924.91 was presented to nsif. We are so grateful to everyone involved.
Of course, none of this would be possible without the support of our wonderful SGRE employees - please see below the tremendous contributions that they have all made to raise funds for and awareness of nsif.
'Taking the Plunge!' - First to kick start proceedings was the brave Andy Young. Andy's challenge was to plunge into ice cold water every day for 30 days, wearing a different outfit for each dip!! He courageously faced his dislike of freezing cold water and, with a sterling effort, completed his task!!
A massive thank you goes to Andy for his huge commitment. We really do appreciate what you have done.
'Guess the Weight of the Baby' - Upon receiving news that one of our colleagues was expecting a baby, Iona Hartley decided to launch a guess the weight of the baby competition. The competition was won by Chris Hetherton who was presented with a bottle of fizz and a box of chocolates. Well done to Chris and congratulations to Joel and Ellie Shortland on the safe arrival of their beautiful baby son, Sid.
'The Hull Half Marathon' - Four enthusiastic runners from SGRE, Georgia Stockhill, Joel Shortland, Chris Wainman and Sam Fenton completed the arduous half marathon in Hull on Sunday 11th June. On what was the hottest day of the year so far, they each put their best foot forward and PB's were smashed all round!! A massive achievement!! Their commitment and determination was outstanding and we are so grateful and proud of them all. A huge 'THANK YOU' and congratulations.
'Humber Bridge Half Marathon' - Special recognition goes to Shaun Grantham for his outstanding contributions so far this year. Not only is Shaun undertaking a half marathon in June, in his own time along with his 2 boys, he has also successfully approached a number of local businesses for raffle prizes. Many thanks Shaun for going "above and beyond" and we wish you the best of luck in your half marathon.
Summer Raffle - Once again, our wonderful ladies from our Office Services Team, organised a summer raffle. Thank you to everyone who bought tickets and contratulations to our lucky winners.
'Leeds Running Festival 10K - 20th August 2023' - James Mallinson completed his first ever 10k! Following a few health concerns and with the help of Coyle Health and Well Being, James decided to make a lifestyle change. He has come such a long way and we are all really proud of his achievements. Not only did James achieve his personal goals, he also raised £285 for nsif. Congratulations James and thank you!
'B2B4 Cycle Challenge' - Mark Hague from Siemens Gamesa joined our team of eight cyclists to complete a gruelling 250 mile cycle challenge from the Menai Bridge in Anglesey to the Humber Bridge. Mark showed great commitment and determination and trained hard before the main event which took 3 days arriving at the Beech Tree in Kirkella for a well earned welcome home celebration. Well done Mark on a fantastic personal achievement and for raising close to £1,000 for nsif!!!
'Total Warrior Event' - Joel Shortland is a master at rallying the troops!! A coach full of SGRE employees headed for Leeds to complete the Total Warrier course and raised £1,000 for nsif. Joel has been instrumental in raising awareness and funds for the charity this year. Thank you Joel and to everyone who took part.
At the end of our fundraising year, we invited Rachel Mallows (nsif Charity Manager) and her assistant Katie Powell to visit Siemens Gamesa Blade Factory to meet with Plant Director Andy Sykes along with everyone who contributed to the success of 2023. After a lovely 'thank you' speech from Rachel, Andy presented a cheque in the sum of £15,974.91 which represented funds raised by SGRE throughout the year. Special thanks go to Raquel Matos and Georgia Stockhill who kindly provided a comprehensive, informative factory tour for Rachel, Katie, myself and John. This was a perfect way to round off what has been a truly inspirational year for the Hull and ER Branch of nsif. Our heartfelt thanks go to you all.
