1 - 3 July 2016 - Bridge to Bridge 2 Bike Challenge

After the success of the first bridge to bridge bike challenge in 2013 which saw 5 riders travel from the Humber Bridge to Tower Bridge, London, in early 2016 plans were put in place for its successor. Coninuing the "bridge" theme which represents the essence of the groundbreaking treatment for spinal injury being perfected by Professor Raisman and his team, this time, eight riders signed up for the 280 mile challenge from the Forth Bridge, Edinburgh to the Humber Bridge. We were fortunate to have the excellent help of Dave Waters as the driver of our support vehicle, ably assisted by Steven Pye. Day 1 of the challenge saw us leave the Forth Bridge viewing area at 8.15am, with 130 miles ahead of us that day. After some 8,500 feet of climbing and every type of weather that the British summer can throw at you - except sunshine! - we arrived in Morpeth 12 hours later. The next day was a shorter ride of about 80 miles but was challenging, seeing a seemingly endless chain of climbs and descents, before a relatively flat ride in to SandHutton, near Thirsk, where we all enjoyed some excellent cooking and hospitality from the host/chef of the Kings Arms. Our final day in the saddle was pretty flat, covering the 70 miles back to the Humber Bridge for a photo-shoot before finally returning to a welcome from some 70 family and friends at the Beech Tree, Kirk Ella. The challenge proved to be a great success with fantastic support from a large number of donors, helping us to raise a grand total of £6,311.97 (including gift aid). Special thanks go to the following for their support of and input to the event: Tony Good of Broach Hill Garage for providing the support vehicle; the proprietors of Morpeth Lodge Guest House and the Kings Arms, Sandhutton, each of whom made a sizeable donation to nsif; The Beech Tree, for providing us with a buffet and venue for the home-coming; Angela Pye for arranging the welcome home party; the Support Crew of Dave Waters and Steven Pye and, of course, the team of riders who gave up  their time to undertake this challenge: Andrew Cooney, Ronnie Fletcher; Richard Hardy; Ray Lydon; Phil Nevet; John Pye; Dave Sayers and Grant Stables - Many thanks to you all - we are confident that a cure for spinal injury is moving ever closer as  a result of fund raising activities of this nature !

19 June 2016 - Jonny and Hollie Lees Hull 10k

After many weeks of late night training runs, the big day finally arrived for husband and wife team Jonny and Hollie.  Jonny was a relative veteran of the race, usually wearing a spiderman mask! From the entry fee of £2, this competition will raise £257 for nsif, with the remaining money being paid out in prizes to the top three points scorers at the end of the season in May 2016.
